What to do when you are in a lift ???

Posted by Kian, Ting

This is a very important and informative email .

What to do when you are trapped in a lift ???

We never know when and where accidents will happen to us OR people around us.  Read on and hope this piece of information may help any of us when things do happen to yourself, our friends and our loved ones.
One day, while in a lift, it suddenly broke down and it was falling from level 13 at a fast speed. Fortunately, I remembered watching a TV program that taught  you must quickly press all the buttons for all the levels.
Finally, the lift stopped at the 5th level.
When you are facing life and death situations, whatever decisions or actions you make decides your survival.
If you are caught in a lift  breakdown, first thought in mind may be 'waiting to die'...
But after reading below, things will definitely be different the next time you are caught in a lift.

First  - Quickly press all the different levels of buttons in the lift.
When the emergency electricity supply is being activated, it will stop the lift from falling further.

Second - Hold on tight to the handle (if there is any).. It is to support your position and prevent you from falling or getting hurt when you lost your balance.

Third - Lean your back and head against the wall forming a straight line.
Leaning against the wall is to use it as a support for your back/spine as protection.

Fourth - Bend your knees
Ligament is a flexible, connective tissue.  Thus, the impact of fractured bones will be minimised  during fall.

For everyone, kindly do share  this piece of information with your near and dear ones !!

Latest Trick to Rob Your House using Telekom Malaysia

Posted by Kian, Ting

At about 1.30pm yesterday, we had someone ringing our doorbell .My daughter checked and found that it was a young Malay guy wearing a BLUE TM Shirt with the words printed TM Contractor in front and the back of the shirt TM. He informed us that our phone line was out together with our Steamyx. She went in to check and found it was true and informed me that the guy wanted to check the cables in the house.

I tied up my Dog and let him in carying a small bag. He was shown all the phones in the house ie my room, daughter's room and hall. When he was in my daughter's room, he asked me to go to my room to check the phone for a dialling tone, and when he was in my room, I was asked to go to the hall to do the same. He was in our house for a good twenty minutes and after that he told me that he has to go outside to check the cable. After looking at the cable outside, he said he will be back to change the cables outside which was supposed to be the main problem. In a jiff he was off on his motorbike and sped off.

I had a strong feeling that something was not right. I asked my daughter to check her room to see if he left something behind and to my surprise I was told that her handphone was missing. I ran to my room to check and found my handphone and wallet still intack, BUT checking further my GOLD chain was missing (worth about RM3,000.00)

So my friends, please be more alert and make sure that this do not happen to you as nowdays things that you under estimate happens.

By the way TM personel came this morning and they confirm that two wires have been dismantled from the TM box outside my house.

Sri Petaling STAR LRT flasher on the prowl

Flasher Alert at STAR LRT Station

A snapshot the student took of the alleged flasher.
By Fiona Ho
Girls, beware. There is a flasher on the prowl on the Star LRT, a student told The Daily Chilli.

The brazen pharmacy student, who took a snapshot of the alleged flasher, said the man flashed his genitals at her when he sat opposite her in an LRT coach.
The incident occurred last Monday when she boarded the LRT at the Sri Petaling station to go home from college at around 8 pm.

She sat at the side of the coach while the man took the seat opposite her.
She did not take much notice of the man until she noticed something jutting out of his crotch. That was when she spotted his sex organ which was exposed through a hole in his pants.

“I was really shocked when I realised what it was but I was unable to react,” she said, adding she was really tired that day.

“I acted like nothing happened but I went on to SMS a friend, but he did not reply,” said the student.

Strangely enough, the alleged flasher “closed his legs” and blocked his genitals with his umbrella when another female passenger sat next to her, the student claimed.
“Maybe he was afraid she would shout,” she reasoned.

“But that pervert was still facing me, so I decided to take a picture with my handphone. I think he knew I saw his private parts. Luckily, I managed to get a picture before getting out of the LRT at the Chan Sow Lin station,” the student said.

“The incident occurred in just about 5 - 6 minutes and there were quite a number of people on board the LRT. But I’m not sure if anyone else noticed,” she added.
To other girls who may encounter flashers, the student said: “They should shout to draw attention so that those around them may help to catch the pervert and take him to the police.”

She added: “Be careful when you get off the train and make sure you are not followed by perverts or strange guys. Also, avoid walking in dark areas.”
She has posted the snapshot of the alleged flasher on her Facebook to warn other girls about him.

Alarm with GPS no help to buyer

Posted by Kian, Ting

By SARBAN SINGH
newsdesk@thestar.com.my

SEREMBAN: Spare-parts dealer Ong Eng Ching learnt the hard way that Global Positioning System (GPS) for vehicles is not really foolproof – at a very costly RM138,000.
That was the amount he had paid in cash for a used Toyota Fortuner which a company had put up for sale via tender.

Victim with a huge loss: Ong showing the police report he had lodged following the theft of his car from his home in Taman Merpati.
The father of three, who had wanted to take the family for more outings together, had successfully bid for the car.
“I then went to the insurance company to get cover for the car but was told to install an alarm system with GPS (global positioning system) first to prevent theft,’’ he said, adding that he then fixed the gadget for RM2,400.
However, he said the car was stolen from his house in Taman Merpati here while waiting for the transfer of ownership and insurance cover.
“I was about to leave for work at about 6am when I found the car missing from the porch. It was just a few days after installing the alarm system.
“I immediately alerted the GPS service provider and they told me that my car was detected near Bukit Paya at about 5am.
“But the company could not track down the car,’’ he told reporters at the office of Rasah MP Anthony Loke.
Ong said he was told fantastic things about the GPS system when it was sold to him.
“Now I have lost all my money as the car cannot be traced,’’ he said, adding that he could not recoup his losses because the car had no insurance cover.
Loke said he would seek legal advice on the matter.
“We want to assist Ong to see if he can recover some of his losses and if there was an element of negligence involved,” he said.
Loke said the authorities should also act against insurance companies which made it mandatory for car buyers to install additional security features to reduce the risk of the vehicles being stolen.
“Some of them simply refuse to provide coverage just to safeguard themselves,’’ he added.

Check Your Insurance Policies

Posted by Kian, Ting

She has 3 policies but no coverage - An article to share...

Another 'horror story' involving medical insurance claims.  The onus is on the policyholder to understand the terms and conditions of the policy.
A policy contains 30 - 40 pages long, with legal terms only lawyers understand!  Don't bother too much with the jargon.  Just check the list of
exclusions.

This case is typical of customer and agent poorly
communicated.  How many people actually turn the pages of an insurance policy?

The New Paper's report today,
Source:The Sun,News,Tuesday 31 August 2010

This sort of fury often brought on by finance-related matters.

Yesterday I received a letter from Prudential, with whom I spend nearly $1,000 every month, telling me that I don’t have cancer
Yep, you read it right. Apparently, according to the experts at Prudential, I lost a breast and went through a 12 hour surgery for… not cancer!
Blows your mind, huh? I’m still trying to find pieces of my brain under the couch after this staggering news.

Truth is, three of my many Prudential policies cover me for critical illness. However, when I signed with my agents, I never imagined that cancer at Stage 0 would be considered by my insurance company that I “do not have cancer”. In fact, there is every chance a woman buying a life plan with critical illness coverage has NO IDEA there is a stage called DCIS, and that her insurance company does not consider it cancer.

So my “imaginary cancer” won’t allow me to claim any of the $200,000 (or more) that my critical illness plans entitle me to.
Please, if you are a woman reading this, go and see your insurance agent and tell him/her/it that you want coverage for EARLY STAGE CANCERS. Make sure your policy document states that you will get 25% or however much for ductal carcinomas-in-situ or Stage 0 breast cancer. To my understanding these are the 2 policies that offer them now:

1. Great Eastern’s PinkLife will pay out 25% of your sum assured for carcinomas-in-situ. Not great an exchange for a breast but at least it’s not nothing. If I had bought that instead I would have $50,000 to allow me to take a break from work for some months, while still being able to pay my monthly bills and kids’ tuition fees and groceries…

2. AIA’s Complete Critical Illness Cover pays out 25% on early critical illnesses (I am assuming DCIS breast cancer is one of these).

Please please please, I beg you, don’t get royally scr*wed like me. Make sure your critical illness plan actually covers you, and you are not just happily giving your money away to insurance companies for their CEOs to buy 10 luxury holiday homes across the world.

Do not be a sucker like me. Please.

Call your insurance agent or financial planner today and make sure, by hook or by crook, you are covered by some rider, anything, for early stage cancers.

I’ve been researching cases of insurance companies who don’t pay out for DCIS breast cancers. Looks like it’s a worldwide disease. The insurance companies are the disease, I mean.
I lost a breast to this threat.
My histological report finds the cancer cells ARE malignant and aggressive, and most certainly were life-threatening — or I wouldn’t have needed the mastectomy.
I just happened to discover it before it became an uncontrollable growth.
Tell me how this is not cancer.
In my Googling I found this BBC clip. It makes me so, so sad that all around the world, women like me are shortchanged by insurance policies that they pay through the nose for.
I have paid close to $32,000 for one policy and over $25,000 for the other.

This clause in Critical Illness contracts NEEDS TO CHANGE. DCIS is cancer (and in my case, malignant) and it should be awarded accordingly and automatically. Sadly, Prudential covered its backside in its small print, which I had no understanding of. It makes me sad that they expect me to have Stage 1, or 2, or 3 or terminal cancer and chemo and radiation before I qualify to make a claim. Losing a breast is forever. Surely that must count for something.

For women in their 20s or 30s reading this — if you have had a grandmother, mother, sister, aunt, female cousin contract breast cancer, make sure you get yourself proper coverage (see box above).

A close friend who is a decorated journalist was horrified to hear it was likely I could not make a claim on my critical illness plans. “They should change that,” he said (after uttering “Wah lau eh, sh*t!”). “I can write a story on that.”

He should. I think I will be calling him soon. Also I am relooking at my Prudential policies now — maybe it’s not worthwhile carrying on. I should get my money back. Pity the surrender value is so pathetic. Bet that CEO already bought his 11th luxury holiday home.

Never mind, lessons learned. READ THE SMALL PRINT, AND FIND OUT WHAT THE EXCLUSIONS MEAN.
So, I guess I have no choice but to haul my sorry ass back to work.

Shree Ann Mathavan of The New Paper came to visit me yesterday and we had a nice chat about my insurance policies (among other things — she is a lovely girl and a hardworking journalist).
Her story came out in today’s New Paper and I felt it was a really fair and clear report of what happened. I was dreading a super-sensationalist header like “She Loses A Breast… And They Won’t Pay!” LOL!

Shree Ann was really respectful of my reasons for talking about this — it is not to complain that Prudential bullied me (which they did not, a contract is a contract) — but to alert other women who might be in the process of buying a policy, or may not have taken a look at her existing policies to make sure her coverage is full. Hence her report came out as such.
I’ve received emails, calls and comments to this blog — financial advisers who very kindly explain how it works (I just wish it was BEFORE not AFTER, but thank you all), women who have been through the same experience, and women who never even realised hospitalisation and critical illness policies are two different policies! So it only confirms that there is definitely a gap in the information that women need to have about their health insurance.

I am also happy to hear from friends who have bought the women’s only policies from AIA, Prudential or Great Eastern, and the GE Early Payout Critical Care, and were covered when the need arose.

Happy!

Today, for once, I feel like there is something worthwhile that has come out of my cancer experience
.

Dear ALL,
Please take note for safety may it be yourself/your wife/ your daughters n etc.
Be extra careful,

see a guy (especially Indian) who rides a motorbike with a
bloody hand knocking on your window demanding you to stop and asking
for tissue paper to clean the blood when you are driving a car,
remember DO NOT stop the car at all. Even if he damages your car or
holds the side mirrors tightly, DO NOT stop the car but drive directly
to the nearest police station. This kind of criminal tactics have been
reported in about 40 cases in Seremba n, K. Lumpur, Shah Alam, P.Jaya
and Klang Town police stations (actually around the whole country).

These guys are mainly Indian gangsters, They work in a group and dare to
commit this crime even in crowded areas where nobody will dare to stop
the car to help you. The main purpose of this dirty tactic is to rob
you and/ or even commit rape if you are female driver driving alone.
Please forward this message to the people you care about.
