Dear friends, I would like to share something that had happened to me just yesterday evening after work.
My bro took me to buy contact lens at an optical shop just outside our condo in wangsa maju.
He and his girlfriend waited for me in the car outside the optical shop (not directly in front of the shop).
I've never been inside the shop, yesterday was my first time at 6.50pm.
Something was not quite right as there was nobody to assist me when I was inside the shop.
I waited and kept looking around for somebody to come out. A few minutes later, a young malay
man walked out. I was indeed surprised to see him. He didn't look like an employee of the shop.
His attire was quite casual looking, T-shirt and jeans.
I was beginning to feel suspicious. The first thought that came to my mind, probably he was
a customer who just got his eye checked or something but he was not wearing any glasses.
I asked him ' Ada orang kah'? He said ada. I thought he was heading out of the shop.
Instead he went behind me and pulled out a rambo like dagger and forced me to go to the
manager's room inside the optical shop. I couldn't do anything or shout for help. Totally powerless.
The shop manager Mr Soh and his 2 assistants (a male n female) were already being held hostage
inside the room earlier. His male assistant's hand was injured and bleeding while the lady was
trembling and trying to help him stop the bleeding with a cloth.
The robber pointed the dagger at me and forced me to give him my gold necklace and
all my money. I opened my handbag and hand him my purse. I did as told as I did not want to
provoke any anger in him. I was afraid of the sharp dagger more than anything else. Its not a
kitchen knife we're talking about here. A stab of the dagger will definitely end my life that very
moment. He complained that i was slow in my movement and had too little money.
I only had RM71 to give him but my gold necklace was worth much more. I told the bastard,
"Bang, minta maaf itu saja saya ada. Tak tipu betul, bang. Sumpah bang.' Saya nak beli contact
lens dengan credit card saje."
Earlier he had already taken the 3 poor victims' money and handphones. After taking what
he wanted from me, he went back to the counter in front. He closed the sliding door at the
hallway. We couldn't see what he was doing. But we could hear him checking out the teller
machine for the cash and glass cupboard for sunglasses. We waited for him to finish his business.
It was the longest time I had to wait in my life. When he finally took off, the manager went out to
check and see whether the coast is clear.
I finally went out and told my brother what had happened. He was really shocked but glad I was not hurt.
I'm a bit traumatized and shaken by the whole incident. It had happened so fast, with no warning whatsoever.
The shop manager made a police report. I didn't make one as I feel our local enforcers are
robbery-fatiqued and wouldn't be bothered to do anything. I did return to the optical shop at night with my
brother to help out with the police investigation when the shop owner contacted me to do so.
However, from the look on the lazy police faces, that it's another case closed. They came only
as a formality of their duty. Nothing was done as it's too much work for them. That is the
reason why crimes are committed rampantly all over the country because the robbers know
they can get away with it.
The blessing in disguise is I survived the terrible ordeal and being able to share this bizarre
and unforgettable experience with all of you. The moral of the story is if you ever walk into
a shop where there is no one around, just walk out from that place immediately. Don't wait
and hang around like I did. Come back and buy another day. We can never smell danger but
the signs are there to alert us, if we are sensitive enough to notice it. I've learnt my lesson the
hard way. I only wanted to buy contact lens but ended up as a victim of a robbery in progress instead. |
